Hydraulics lab tour

Return to activities

Head to the Hydraulics lab to admire different set-ups and measuring equipment used to experimentally analyse water currents. In one area, water can erode the river bottom, while causing sedimentation in another.  Water also spreads nutrients and pollutants. Water exerts forces on all sorts of hydraulic constructions, for example those that prevent flooding or allow for shipping. To get a better overview of these phenomena, measurements in nature are accompanied by experiments with scale models in the lab. The results of this research allow for hydraulic constructions to be better designed and for more efficient river, canal, and sewerage management.
