Decrepit and stripped of its grandeur, a maze where visitors can lose all sense of orientation. This is how the “journey through time” began in the Plateau Complex in 2010. The master plan and the extensive renovation work gradually reached their end point and, step by step, the “Instituut voor de Wetenschappen” was returned to it's former glory as the mighty castle of science, just as the original architects envisaged in 1890. From dull classrooms, indoor gardens and auditoriums that had fallen out of favour to imposing towers and domineering main entrances: attention has been paid to every corner and side in order to restore the bygone grandeur within a 21st-century context. The route is not suitable for people with mobility difficulties due to the amount of steps that must be used. There are no lifts available in the areas that are open to the public.
